National Highway 5 (India)

National Highway 5 (India) is one of the highways in India connecting Chennai in Tamil Nadu and Kolkata in West Bengal. Major part of it passes through Andhra Pradesh and Orissa along the east coast.[1]

It runs for a distance of 1533 kilometers (Orissa-488, Andhra Pradesh-1000 and Tamil Nadu-45).

NH 5 joins National Highway 6 near Jharpokharia, in Orissa.

National Highway 43 to Raipur, Chattisgarh starts from Rajapulova in Andhra Pradesh

National Highway 9 from Machilipatnam to Pune crosses the NH 5 at Vijayawada.

In Tamil Nadu, NH 5 starts from Chennai and shortly enters the Andhra Pradesh after Gummidipundi.

In Andhra Pradesh, it passes through most of the coastal towns in nine coastal districts including Nellore, Ongole, Guntur, Vijayawada, Eluru, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam.

In Orissa, it passes through Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Baharagora.
