Template talk:Motd nomclosing
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hi. Many gramatical errors have resulted in this template, but the most prominent one is "mottos vs mottoes". Therefore, I suggest doing a consensus to see who supports what. We need to decide what variety of English we should use on motd, be it commonwealth or american. I have discovered that the people who prefer "mottos" use commonwealth, while the ones that prefer "mottoes" use american. This could be a coincidence, but that's what I've seen so far. WHat do you think? should it be "mottos" or "mottoes"? Thanks. – AstroHurricane001(Talk+Contribs+Ubx)(+sign here+How's my editing?) 16:07, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

- There are other things you may want to disscuss, (eg. a googol of motto(e)s or a googol motto(e)s) – AstroHurricane001(Talk+Contribs+Ubx)(+sign here+How's my editing?) 16:07, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- As my edit summary states, you wouldn't say "a million of apples", but rather "a million apples". One reason I use "mottos" is because google:mottos returns more pages than google:mottoes. However, I try to avoid the plural of "motto" by using the word "nominations" instead. --Tewy 17:13, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- I think that is a good compromise so should we settle with "motto nominations"? Simply south 17:20, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- If I may also add that this isn't a huge deal to have differences in spelling, just as it isn't a huge deal to have differences in spelling on Wikipedia in general. Everyone knows what you mean. --Tewy 17:23, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'm sorry it turned out that way but i wasn't meaning it was a huge deal. Personally i don't mind what is used but i thought it was a typo as i have never seen "mottoes" before. Simply south 17:28, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'll just change the template to read "nominations". ~ Magnus animum ∵ ∫ φ γ 22:28, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
