I suppose this is a Chinese obelisk. If I hadn't been told, I wouldn't have identified it as an obelisk. Wetman 06:58, 26 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit] years depicted in lower plinth correction?

I don't really know, but I think the years depicted in the lower plinth span 1840-1949, not 1840-1849. I'm not certain enough to correct it myself, but this is what most or all other sources that I've seen say.
