Mitchell got a PhD in physics from MIT under Francis Low, so I changed his profession to mmathematical physicist. His lab at Rockefeller was called Laboratory of Mathematical Physics.

"... he often turned out to have read a paper that would help them; he was usually able to tell them the title, authors, and publication date to make things easier, and he did so straight off the top of his head most of the time."
