[edit] Gascon

Are your sure that "Miquelon" is Basque. -on is, I recall, a diminutive suffix in Gascon language as in Peyruton, "Pete"? French Basque Country was multilingual in Basque, Gascon and French. But, probably the names were cross-language.

There were never any Gascon fishermen in Miquelon.
The island was a Basque fishing station during the XVIIth century with many fishermen who's first name was "Miquelon" or Michael in basque (Labourdin)

[edit] Second World War

What happened ? I understand Miquelon/St Pierre went with Vichy and were occupied by Canada. Streona (talk) 21:06, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

I think that is not quite accurate, from my understanding.--Filll (talk) 21:09, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
