Midtre Gauldal is a municipality in the county of Sør-Trøndelag, Norway.
Midtre Gauldal was created as a new municipality January 1, 1964 - after the merger of the old municipalities of Budal, Singsås, Soknedal and Støren.
[edit] The name
The name was created in 1964. The meaning is 'the middle part of Gauldalen'.
[edit] Coat-of-arms
The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1982). The Y-figure represents several items: The meeting of the vallies Gauldal and Soknedal at Støren - and also the meeting of roads and railways there. The church of Budal in the municipality (from 1754) is also shaped like an Y.
