Michael Vella (born February 19, 1980) is an Australian rugby league player of Maltese descent. Vella is currently the captain of Hull Kingston Rovers and plays as a prop forward.
Internationally, he has represented the Australian Kangaroos as well as Malta Knights. He left Parramatta Eels to join English side Hull KR in the Super League where he was voted Players' Player of the Year in 2007. Vella is hugely popular with fans at the club where he was made captain for the 2008 season. He is known by the nicknames 'Mickey V', 'White Rhino' and 'Tranny', the latter after coach Justin Morgan remarked that he 'walked like a woman' when he played at the Eels! Mick is easily recognised by his shaved head and often sports a moustache and small beard.
