[edit] The Old Metababy

When Metababy was fist introduced in November 1998[1] the editors and creators of pages had a lot of fun expressing their freedoms. The number of pages created would reach up into the hundreds before getting wiped out. Participants of the metababy community would still continue to create more pages. At one time Metababy allowed emails to metababy@metababy.com. The Metababy site would auto-create the incoming email as a new page. The Metababy site died out due to the increasing number of spam and offensive posts. In May, 2003[2] it was temporarily shutdown by its creators.[3]

[edit] Metababy Today

Today, Metababy has been restored at http://www.metababy.com. However the pages are still continuously victims of spam. The spam posts today are often posts by other users who choose to display text messages copied from random myspace and facebook users as well as "looks like porn but its not" photos from photobucket. Metababy v 2.2 claims to use typekey to authenticate users.[4] However this tool was discontinued due to lack of community participation.[citation needed] Metababy is still an example to the world of wiki for the needs of rules and policies to prevent agents bot type attacks as well as malicious users.[citation needed]
