Mere Brow is a small village in West Lancashire, England, situated between the larger villages of Tarleton and Banks, just off the A565 road. It is administered by the West Lancashire District Council and the Tarleton parish council. Mere Brow is the third smallest village in the parish of Tarleton, the smallest being Holmes and Sollom.

Like most villages in the area, it was primarily an agricultural village thanks to the excellent soil, although there was also noticeable fishing activity for many years. Production of flowers and vegetables is still common in the farms which surround the village. The facilities in the village and its environs include a pub, a post office, a primary school, a smithy and the leisure lakes.

[edit] History

Mere Brow and the neighbouring village of Holmes used to be part of the ancient parish of North Meols but now are part of Tarleton parish.

[edit] Community

The village has been involed in a giant pumpkin competition for nearly 15 years. The competition involves people from the local community growing the biggest pumpkin, the person with the biggest wins. The competition is usally in October.
