- 1 Agricultural National Party MLC Eric Charlton resigned on July 28, 1998. Dexter Davies was appointed to the resulting casual vacancy on August 11.
- 2 Mining and Pastoral MLC Mark Nevill was elected as a representative of the Labor Party, but resigned to sit as an independent on August 23, 1999.
- 3 South Metropolitan ALP MLC John Halden resigned on January 20, 2000 in order to take up the position of party state president. Graham Giffard was appointed to the resulting casual vacancy on February 7.
- 4 Mining and Pastoral MLC Tom Helm was elected as a representative of the Labor Party, but resigned to sit as an independent on July 27, 2000 after losing preselection to recontest his seat at the 2001 state election.
