Mulgrave One Nation MLA Charles Rappolt resigned from parliament on November 4, 1998. ALP candidate Warren Pitt, the member for Mulgrave from 1989 to 1995, won the resulting by-election on December 5.
One Nation MLAs Shaun Nelson, Dorothy Pratt and Ken Turner resigned from the party on February 2, 1999, and served out the remainder of their terms as independents.
One Nation MLAs John Kingston and Jeff Knuth resigned from the party on February 23, 1999. Kingston served out his term as an independent, while Knuth sat as an independent until August 5, when he attempted to found his own party, the Country Party QLD.
The five remaining One Nation MLAs, Harry Black, David Dalgleish, Bill Feldman, Jack Paff and Peter Prenzler, abandoned the failing party on December 14, 1999, founding their own alternative, the City Country Alliance. The five were later joined by prior colleague Knuth on February 18, 2000, once his own new party began to founder.
Bundamba ALP MLA Bob Gibbs resigned from parliament on December 14, 1999. ALP candidate Jo-Ann Miller won the resulting by-election on February 5, 2000.
Woodridge ALP MLA Bill D'Arcy resigned from parliament on January 9, 2000. ALP candidate Mike Kaiser won the resulting by-election on February 5. Kaiser later resigned from the party on January 10, 2001 after being placed under mounting pressure over the Shepherdson Inquiry's investigation of his role in an electoral rorting scandal. He served out his term as an independent and did not contest the 2001 election.
Capalaba MLA Jim Elder was elected as an ALP member and served as Deputy Premier under Peter Beattie, but resigned from the party on November 30, 2000 as the first casualty of the scandal that would later also end the careers of Kaiser and Musgrove. He served out the final months of his term as an independent and did not contest the 2001 election.
Springwood MLA Grant Musgrove was elected as an ALP member, but resigned from the party on December 4, 2000 as the second casualty of the Shepherdson Inquiry's investigation into electoral rorting. He also served out the remainder of his term as an independent and did not contest the 2001 election.
