Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei (デジタル・デビル物語 女神転生 Dejitaru Debiru Sutorī Megami Tensei?) is the first in the popular Megami Tensei series of RPG games. It was developed by "Wolf Team" (the subsidiary of Nihon Telenet which is now "Namco Tales Studio"), and was released for the Famicom by Namcot in 1987 (there was also a version released for the MSX [1]). It was later enhance-remade along with Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei 2 in a Super Famicom games known as Kyūyaku Megami Tensei.

Commonly known as "Mega-Ten" by fans, this game is based upon Megami Tensei, the first volume of the Japanese horror novel series Digital Devil Story, and dedicates a large part of the game to dungeon crawling. This game also focuses very heavily on demons, which have gone on to become a trademark of the series. This game was later followed by a sequel, and then by the follow up series Shin Megami Tensei, (a name that would be used by most future games in the franchise). There have also been spin offs, including the Last Bible, Majin Tensei and Persona series, with the latest being Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner (Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga in the U.S.). The original Megami Tensei is a 3-D scrolling RPG that has some of the typical Megaten gameplay systems such as the "Auto command" and the use of a computer to store demons.

This game has never been officially released outside Japan in any form. A remake for the mobile phone is currently in development under the title "Digital Devil Saga".

[edit] Synopsis

The demon Lucifer has revived them in order to prepare to invade the human world once again.
