[edit] Taiwan or ROC?

Is this article about the media in the Republic of China (ROC), or specifically the media in Taiwan? — Instantnood 20:31, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

  • Or maybe Taiwan as synonymous with the ROC. Don't go out looking for trouble. SchmuckyTheCat 23:07, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
Taiwan may or may not be synonymous with the ROC. The title is not clear enough for an encyclopædic article. It may be against the NPOV policy. — Instantnood 23:10, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
You're trying to pick fights. SchmuckyTheCat 23:17, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
The policies are there. Maintenance is always necessary. The earlier to figure it out the better, especially for new articles like this one. — Instantnood 23:35, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
I fail to see your policy. SchmuckyTheCat 00:15, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
Those are not my policies. — Instantnood 16:37, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
  • I realise that Taiwan is often used synonymously with the ROC. My understanding is that Taiwan and the ROC differ in that the latter includes islands off the coast of mainland China under the control of the ROC authorities, officially recognised in both the PRC and the ROC as being part of Fujian province. However, Wikipedia policy (as I understand it) is to use the most commonly known name for an entity, which is why I chose to name the article 'Media in Taiwan'. I did check the policy Instantnood stated above before I wrote the article and I understood that ROC should be used 'in a political context'. I would contend that the article is not political in nature and therefore I went for 'Media in Taiwan'. I will be happy to change the title to 'Media in the Republic of China' if the rules dictate or a consensus agrees on this, however I do feel that 'Media in Taiwan' is the clearest and most relevant title for this topic. Perhaps the best thing is to add a redirect? Taiwantaffy 09:31, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
Thank you. Media may or may not be a political context, but using the name of the polity is intrinsically political. I'd prefer to change the title, but it should be done only according to community consensus. — Instantnood 16:37, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
  • Taiwantaffy, it's fine where it is. 'nood has an agenda and he'll keep blathering here about it but can be safely ignored. SchmuckyTheCat 17:55, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
Show the evidence if it's really my agenda. — Instantnood 18:20, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
You're restricted from proposing all the page moves renaming Taiwan to ROC. Everyone sees right through you. SchmuckyTheCat 18:37, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
Am I banned from proposing? Is there anything wrong to seek clarifications? — Instantnood 18:44, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
