Maung Maung Kha was a military officer and the 8th prime minister of Myanmar (Burma).
He was born on June 7, 1920 to U Chit Pe and Daw Khin Tint. He passed ten standard, high school, in 1936. In 1937 he attended Yangon University. In 1941, he joined the Japan revolution, leaving his final year of Bsc. engineering (Mechnical-Electrical). In 1944 he joined Burma Army. During the Japanese occupation of Burma (1942-1945) he completed military training and became a member of the Armed Forces. He served as the Director of Defence Industries of Myanmar Armed Forces with the rank of colonel until 1972.
Following the 1962 coup d'etat by General Ne Win political power was transferred to the Revolutionary Council, and Colonel Maung Maung Kha became Secretary of the Ministry of Industry. On 23 September 1972, he was appointed Minister of Industry in the Cabinet. Following the establishment of the Socialist Republic of the Union of Burma (SRUB) on 4 January 1974, and adoption of a new Constitution, Maung Maung Kha continued to served as Minister of Industry and later on as Minister of Mines. On March 29, 1977, he was appointed as the 8th Prime Minister of Myanmar. After increasing unrest in the country, on 26 July 1988, Maung Maung Kha was replaced by Tun Tin as Prime Minister.
