Awww.., howcome there is not a proper page here instead of just a redirect? Hmmm... must be all my fault. lol Mathmo 02:46, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Neat, I note now it is no longer a redirect. Cool. Mathmo Talk 11:35, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mathmo.org external link and references

First of all, this article has as an external link a novelty quiz to determine how much of a "mathmo" one is. This has the following problems:

  • External links are supposed to extend the understanding of the concept—please read WP:EL and then explain under which desideratum a quiz like this adds to the understanding of the word "mathmo".
  • WP:EL also indicates that external links must not have copyright issues. The quiz in question announces that it is "essentially a copy of an older version we found in the internet"—not the most glowing of copyright pedigrees.
  • The quiz link was added and then reinstated by User:Mathmo. Is mathmo.org your web site? If so, then you have a Conflict of interest, and should not be adding the link. You point out a similar COI in this edit. (Apologies if the names are a mere coincidence.)

The site is also used in the article as a reference. It appears to be a small personal site, as one version of the article indicates, with a paragraph or so of tongue-in-cheek musings about the term "mathmo", as well as the quiz mentioned above. It's far from an authoritative source, but I admit that, rather than simply deleting it, I should have replaced it with something better, like this Cambridge page, which I found in 30 seconds with Google. I will do that shortly.

Finally, I'm not sure why this page exists at all—it does little more than define the term "mathmo", and Wikipedia is not a dictionary. —johndburger 04:18, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
