Matthew Scott Taylor was born November 26, 1978 and plays bass for the Pop punk band Motion City Soundtrack. Taylor is originally from Mechanicsville, Virginia, a suburb of Richmond, Virginia were he attended Atlee High School.[1] He and bandmate Tony Thaxton first met the members of Motion City Soundtrack while playing a show in Milton, Pennsylvania with their old band, Submerge. Months later, Motion City Soundtrack was looking for a new bassist and Taylor accepted the offer to join their band.

In addition to playing bass, Taylor is credited with backing vocals, piano, and percussion on Motion City Soundtrack's album, Commit This to Memory.

Matt plays 2 Geddy Lee model Fender Jazz basses and a 1973 Fender Precision Bass through an Ampeg SVT-AV 300 watt head and an Ampeg 810 Anniversary cabinet. He used a Fender Mark Hoppus signature bass that Hoppus lent to him to record a few songs on Commit This to Memory. Now that they are on tour after recording their third album Matt plays a Fender Jaguar bass.
