Matthew Swinnerton is the guitarist of the British rock band The Rakes. He was born in Stafford, England. He studied Philosophy at Cardiff University, unlike the other members of The Rakes who studied in Brighton. He later worked in a clothes shop in Covent Garden London with The Rakes' Bassist Jamie Hornsmith. He supports Wolves Football Club. He is influenced by such bands as, The Strokes and David Bowie.
