Jamie Hornsmith (born James Hornsmith) is an artist who plays bass in the band The Rakes. He currently resides in East London.

Singer Alan Donohoe approached Hornsmith while they were both attending Brighton University. Hornsmith was studying art at the time, and wanted to pursue a career as an artist, whilst Donohoe "did science",[citation needed] but was coaxed into joining the band along with guitarist Matthew Swinnerton, with whom he worked in a clothes shop.[1]
Hornsmith's trademark style is marked with flat rolling basslines, a clean tone brought about by his Rickenbacker bass, and octave jumps, almost in a disco-like fashion. He does not use any effects pedals.
