Route 4 is a northwest-southeast state highway in Massachusetts. From its northwestern terminus at Route 3A and Route 40 in North Chelmsford, Route 4 runs southeast through the following towns:
- Chelmsford (sharing a small section of roadway with Route 110)
- Billerica
- Bedford (sharing roadway with Route 225 and Route 62)
- Lexington (sharing roadway with Route 225), terminating at Route 2, exit 56.
Route 4 crosses the following US Highway:
- U.S. Highway 3 in Chelmsford at the former Drum Hill Rotary (exit 32).
Route 4 crosses the following Interstate highways:
- Interstate 495 in Chelmsford (exit 33).
- Interstate 95 (Route 128) in Lexington (exit 31).
