[edit] License tagging for Image:Costanera Norte Freeway crossing downtown Santiago.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Costanera Norte Freeway crossing downtown Santiago.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 22:06, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Antarctica cooling controversy

Antarctica cooling controversy, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Antarctica cooling controversy satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Antarctica cooling controversy and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Antarctica cooling controversy during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Brusegadi 02:49, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NASA pic

I agree with you that this picture should be retained. I have reverted his deletion but he has just done it again. Since he wants to edit war, I suggest that you assist in putting the picture back. Colonel Warden 16:42, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your encouraging comments. It is good that we have the AFD resolved so that your article is kept. The downside is that this encourages the article's detractors to mess with it. The new participant has added an interesting but somewhat irrelevant picture while I believe it was Brusegadi that chopped the section which included the NASA and BAS stuff. I plan to put this back. Since weight of numbers counts for something in establishing consensus, it would be good if you could assist with helpful edits and talk comments too. Colonel Warden 19:34, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

I note your latest revisions. I'd still prefer that NASA picture back though as it illustrates the controversy so well but will hold fire on on further updates today in deference to your position as the original article creator. Colonel Warden 01:53, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

I agree with your sentiments about suppression - it is perhaps an inconvenient truth :). I have sent some feedback to NASA, telling them of the challenges to their presentation and so affording them the opportunity to clarify the basis of their pic. Colonel Warden 02:27, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

I am watching developments and will certainly come back to the issue if I have some new point to make. Please feel free to alert me if there is a further change that you need help in making. Colonel Warden 18:05, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

I have a long response from NASA which details their approach and concludes, "...As a result, we have decided to publish an updated image on the Earth Observatory with Dr. Comiso's assistance. The image should be available in the next week or two. Once again, thanks for bringing this issue to our attention." So, watch for a new picture coming soon...

Brusegadi 05:38, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Copy & paste move

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently copied the contents of a page and pasted it into another with a different name. Specifically, you copied the contents of Travel and Tourism Competiveness Report and pasted it into Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report. This is what we call a "cut and paste move", and it is very undesirable because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. The mechanism we use for renaming articles is to move it to a new name which both preserves the page's history and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. In most cases, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself by this process, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves to request the move by another. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. In this case, since you were the only editor of the original article, it is not a big deal, but it is best to learn the preferred method of renaming pages. Thank you. Russ (talk) 15:23, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, indeed I did what you guessed. I mistype the title while creating the article (it looked awfull), but got confused trying to redirect. I did not realize I could ask for help. Anyway, all the editing was mine since this was a new article and it wasn't that much. Sorry, I will be more carefull the next time.Mariordo (talk) 17:24, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re:

Hi, i'de be happy to help with that article. I do it later when i have more time, ill search for sources as well. As for the info regarding sex tourism, i don't see a problem with it. When i got the source, it was up, but Tico Times later required payment for the statement. It is still references, although no longer online, it is still in print. If you use the search option on the website looking for the aricle, you'll come cross it here. -- LaNicoya  •Talk•  22:10, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Removing irrelevant pictures in Tourism page

Dear User

Thank you for putting back the pictures in the Tourism page. The justification for their removal is that the pictures added since the last major prune of pictures on this page is their lack of relevance to the information conveyed on this page; this page has been an easy target for "holiday snaps" that one would be hard pushed to find any other mention in the article. Further, the haphazard nature of bad edits means that the presented format is inconsistent. You may find it more useful to put the pictures in a Gallery rather than within the article. friedfish (talk) 12:08, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Quite some delay on your response. Remember Wikipedia is not a personal photo album and unless any reasonable relevance for the pictures in the article is shown, then they should not be included. → friedfish (talk) 18:56, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey, take it easy. I did not respond because I found reasonable your justification, and since I did not put all of those pictures, I am not trying to defend any body's personal photo album. My pictures are on my user page. I did the undo only because you deleted plenty of pictures without justification. You are right when arguing that some people go to vacation and put pictures there, just look at the big pic someone just put in the article. However, I think it will be wise to define some criteria on how to include picture in the tourism article, since all the time pics are included or substituted (I do collaborate on the text, that's why I noticed). The only group I did included refers to the table I edited regarding the most visited attractions, and some were already in the article, plus Brazil's Rio de Janeiro, per the explanation in the caption. Are you pretending that every pic must have a ref to justify been there, like the Eiffel Tower? I suggest you clean the ones that are irrelevant or not so well-known destination, and start a discussion on the Talk page to proposed clear rules for inclusion of illustrative pictures about tourism. This is just a suggestion. Take a look at the Latin America article to see the pic removal, sorting and substition that has been going on for weeks, wasting Wiki memory. I did try, as well as others editors to set up a criteria with no results. Those city pictures also are not directly related to the article, and just think if every big city in Latin America has to be there. Just check the history. So, go ahead. [edit] Costa Rica

Despite semi-protection being granted on the Costa Rica, yesterday some redirect the article to some dumb name. Is it possible to sanction this user? Mariordo (talk) 02:46, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Common interests with Vince Cate

Was reading about you and noticed a few interests we have in common, beyond food vs fuel. I went to Cal Berkeley (graduated EECS in 1986). I am interested in space and do the page http://spacetethers.com. I like physics (though have some non-standard views User:Vincecate. I am live on the north-east corner of the Caribbean in Anguilla. [edit] Latin America

Hi. I don't see the orphaned citation in Latin America, No. 19 seems to be working. --the Dúnadan 14:59, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Its nice when other users use friendly comments such as "Data IS 2005 published in 2007 read the source!" when correcting the non-intentional mistakes of other users. Whatever happened to WP:AGF? Cheers. --the Dúnadan 02:34, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Congestion

Hello Mariordo - thanks for adding that section on congestion in Brazil / Sao Paulo. It allowed me to remove the 'globalize' tag which was nice. Could I however ask you not to size-force images in articles? You 'increased' the image to 200px size - however, my settings (and those of many other wikipedians) are set to display thumbnails at 300px (you can change this in 'my preferences' for yourself). So by forcing the image at 200px, you actually DECREASED the size for people like me. I'd suggest that you set this to what you prefer instead of forcing images - WP:MOS suggests a small number of cases when forcing is appropriate, but generally, it is not - especially when some images are forced and others not. Cheers and happy editing. Ingolfson (talk) 09:31, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. Regarding the message you let me. First, I did not create the entry for Brazil, I just fixed the translation, it was very poorly written/translated. I will improve it in the near future with proper references. About the picture, check the history, I just copied it from another article, and it was 250px, I realized it was to big, so I REDUCED it to 200px, I did not increased it as you assumed, but you are right I should have left it just as thumb, as you did. Cheers. Mariordo (talk) 12:02, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
No problem. Sorry for mixing that up partly. Ingolfson (talk) 22:00, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The Brazil Star

The Brazil Star
You are awarded this barnstar for completely revamping after more than 70 edits the Ethanol fuel in Brazil article. So much information was added that this article that once had just 16 source citations now boasts over 85 source citations. Good Job! ⇨ EconomistBR ⇦ Talk 02:46, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Referenced everything in the Curitiba transit system page

I added all references to the tiera del fuego (just joking, don't remember the Portuguese name) Curitiba bus transit system. Also added a small critisism section, with the Light Rail guys. Its a lot of money involved... I'm learning to discover that the Wikipedia is better than any encyclopedia or university, since it is scrutinized by so many people, and you will hardly get by with erroneous facts. I now am hoping someone goes over the numbers and references. For instance site says 85% ridership, as in Upsala report while in US gov committee it said 75% Pashute (talk) 21:41, 5 June 2008 (UTC) Rede Integrada de Transporte Pashute (talk) 21:43, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your collaboration, I will indeed work on the RIT article, I have plenty of sourced info, but right now I want to concentrate on a couple of articles I am currently working on. I will contribute on the criticism section, the only caveat is that usually you don't put that section at the beginning of the article, but rather near the end (see any of the articles dealing with controversial subjects). For the time being, I will just move it below in the article. Mariordo (talk) 13:24, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
