[edit] List of Birds of India
Hi Marcus, I just saw the link you added. Although I am associated with the data behind it, I am tempted to remove the added text because it still needs more work on both the species master list as well as the geo-referencing. I plan to spend time in the near future to fix the bird list with proper citations for including various species. The current list drawn from avibase has some serious errors. Cheers. [edit] Kerala map
Hi Marcus, ive fixed the map at Protected areas of Kerala. The coords of the Kerala locator template were incorrect. You seem to be doing a great job with the Indian protected area articles, keep up the good work. Btw where do you stay in south India? -- PlaneMad|YakYak 16:13, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
- I dont think its possible to have the inset map display using the location map marker template. You will need to make a custom template for that.
- Its wonderful to know that you have worked here, especially under such a famous scientist. Kodai was prolly such a clean place back then, the bomming tourism has taken a toll on its environment now. Im sorry, but i cant help with the tamil in Madurai, Im currently in Chennai. You might be surprised by the proliferation of the English language here, so dont be too worried -- PlaneMad|YakYak 14:18, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Bodinayakkanur

Marcus, good to see you write about obscure yet amazing wildlife parks in remote areas. By the way, you might want to comment/reply at Talk:History of Tamil Nadu regarding this edit reverting your "vandalism". Please leave your view there as the discussion needs a third pair of eyes for neutrality. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 04:36, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] re: Template:Tamil Nadu
Hi Marcus. I agree that places like Karur, Tirunelveli, Dindigul, etc., might be termed as major towns/cities, but definitely not Alandur etc., If you want me to add a category for the former category, I'll add soon. But, we need to fix some criterion so that inclusion is objective. Area, population, status as a district headquarters, comprising a Lok Sabha constituency, please choose some. By the way, I noticed your good edits to wildlife-related articles in Tamil Nadu region. I appreciate your good work. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 05:12, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note, Marcus. C.T., T.P., MC1, N.A.C., M.B., etc., might stand for census town, town panchayat etc., (I can't think of expansions for the other acronyms.). I agree with your criterion. Will try to help you with this even though my area of interest too is different. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 15:18, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use disputed for Image:Diana Mitford-F.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Diana Mitford-F.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

[edit] RE
My concerns were meant for the long term when the current editors will leave Wikipedia, or simply remove the article from their watchlist. I wanted to put a footnote next to every full stop to prevent vandals from inserting a statement cleverly between paras and making it look like the footnote at the end covers everything. In line citations allow for exposing unsourced additions for when we may not be around.
As far as shifting Pant, P.C. (1976). Plants of Corbett National Park, Uttar Pradesh. Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society 73:287-295. to a later section is concerned, I have no objections at all.
However, during the GA-review of the Incense_Route article the reviewer recommended: "Specifically, it should contain in-line citations for all non-general assertions (even if you repeat them within the body of the article) and should briefly touch on all or most of the major sections in the article." In-line citations in the lede also worked well for Roman trade with India, another GA article.
Kindly allow me to keep the in-line citations in the lede since they would act to make the article more verifiable by preventing unsourced additions.
I hope for your continued involvement in the editing and improvement process, and I'll try my level best to make constructive edits in order to promote this great topic to GA.
With regards and good wishes,

Rendezvous with Marcus is just over. We spent around 6 hours in Pondicherry from around 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., and now he is on way to Madurai. He liked the place and the ethnic Tamil cuisine. We talked and talked, and walked and walked on the beach road of Pondicherry - he enjoyed the place and the beach. I am dedicating an image to him: [1]. I look forward to meet him again during his next visit to India. He is passionate about his work on wikipedia. --Bhadani (talk) 17:08, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

You have done a great job with the articles and all the material necessary for reaching a higher level on the quality scale is there.
Would you mind if I tried to edit these articles and see what happens ?

- Thank you for making the template collapsible and for giving me the go ahead to fix the article. Most of the work in the article is already done and I'll just try and do some fixing and WP:GA nomination.
I'll get to as soon as I finish Spice trade, my present occupation on WP. Spice trade should not take more than 2-3 days from now though.

[edit] Silent Valley National Park and Palani Hills National Park
Hi,
First of all, sorry for the delays. As a result of a failed FA nom, and some altercations, I have been experiencing a decline in my will to edit here, which wasn't much in the first place.
Regarding Silent Valley National Park, I have done some removal of unsourced content as the article has lots of well sourced info and really can do without the unsourced additions, which aren't much.
I also renamed the books section and changed the reflist view a bit. This is in addition to some rewriting and WP:MOS alignment.
While editing the Palani Hills National Park article I came across a list of books in this section. I recommend that they should be used with citation tags. I couldn't do it as I didn't understand which book belonged in which part. Additionally, I removed a panoramic image, which was beautiful but I couldn't find a spot to place it. I trust your image skills are better than mine and you would do a better job of placing it then I would.
I would like to add that if you feel the need to revert any of my edits regarding Palani Hills National Park and Silent Valley National Park then please go ahead and do so. You are clearly more knowledgeable on the subject that I am.
With regards,

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:ATREE-Logo.gif
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ATREE-Logo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 02:45, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

- Interesting report, I hope the Tamil Nadu forest department actually recognizes the importance of sharing information on and making meaningful use of wilderness areas. They are probably a lot more comfortable in following the old colonial ways of treating these areas as merely timber cultivation areas. Shyamal (talk) 05:10, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
