Marmion Primary School, (also known as "The Little School in the Bush") is a co-educational state primary school in the northern coastal suburb of Marmion in Perth, Western Australia. It teaches kindergarten to year 7 in the Western Australian education system. Its motto is Strive to Learn.

The school contains a reasonably steady population of about 300 students[1]. The current principal of the school is Mr. Alex Symington.

The School originally opened on 13 February 1956 as a three-room, two-teacher school with 54 pupils. Building had begun in the spring of 1955, despite objections from parents who did not want to send their children to a school "in the bush" with no access road, fences or electricity. Until nearby residential subdivision in the mid-1970s, the school was accessible only by two tracks - one from Beach Road and Flora Terrace, and the other from Ozone Road.[2]

The school grew considerably after the surrounding suburb of Marmion developed between 1973 and 1976. In 2006, the school celebrated its 50th Anniversary.

In January 2007, the school moved its kindergarten from nearby Sorrento to onsite.

The school has a variety of special programs in operation, including music, German language, extension mathematics and a gifted and talented program for identified Year 5-7 students.

The school took part in the Recfishwest clinic in January 2005.[3]

  • Mark Merritt, who teaches science at the school, won the 2005 Prime Minister's Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Primary Schools.[4] He has also been awarded the De Laeter Medal in 2004 for his outstanding contribution to science teaching and a Premier’s Award for Science Teaching in 2003.[5]

Marmion Primary School won an Encouragement Award in the 2004 PALS awards.[6] They won the 'Whole School' category award in 2005.[7]
