[edit] Coca-Cola Cup
As in the previous seasons, United rested many of their first-team players in the League Cup, instead using the competition to provide first team experience to the club's younger players and reserves. This proved to be a bad move, as the Red Devils fell down at the first hurdle, losing in the 2nd round to York City, 4-3 on aggregate.
