[edit] History
Maggie originally lived on a farm and was crippled by an automobile accident which claimed the lives of her parents and her ability to walk in her childhood. In 1973, Mickey Horton, delirious with fever after a bypass surgery, wandered to her farm, claiming himself to be Marty Hansen. They fell in love quickly and were married. Maggie read a newspaper article which described a man named Mickey Horton, who was the same as Marty Hanson. Maggie decided against telling Marty about his amnesia as she was afraid to lose him. Tom, Bill and Laura ended up finding him, but Mickey did not remember his true identity. After eventually overcoming his amnesia, Mickey and Maggie found that they loved each other anyway, and remarried, finally giving her the name Horton. Mickey fond a newspaper article which was offering operations at the university hospital in Salem that would give Maggie the ability to walk again, Mickey knew it was Maggie's dream to walk without crutches, Maggie was initially happy to be having the surgery but still worried that Mickey would be tempted to leave her for her family in Salem, a woman named Linda Phillips who claimed to be a friend of Mickey's supported Maggie but was really trying to woo Mickey and convinced him that her daughter Melissa was his, but Maggie received a letter from a man named Jim Phillips who had discovered Linda's antics and informed Maggie that he was Melissa's father, Maggie warned Linda off with this evidence. Bill Horton operated on Maggie's legs and spine many times, and she eventually learned how to walk again.
On 25th December 1975, Mickey gave Maggie the best present she could want, a little girl who he wanted them to adopt. In early 1976, when Mickey's son, Mike came to stay, after an accident, Mickey's memory returned and realised that Mike couldn't be his son and after trying to kill his brother Bill, he was sent to a sanititarium and their little, Janice had fallen ill with a disease. Tom and Alice took Maggie in and Janice's disease improved, but Mickey ignored Maggie, Maggie later convinced Mickey of his lov for her by taking the trouble to walk for him without her crutches and the two later moved to Salem Maggie has undergone many traumas, including alcoholism, kidnapping by Stefano DiMera, rape, miscarriage, becoming a surrogate mother and then deciding to keep the baby, and the disease myasthenia gravis,[1] a real disease which actress Suzanne Rogers suffers from. Maggie is married to Mickey for a third time (one ceremony was annulled because she thought he was Marty Hansen), after Mickey married Bonnie Lockhart while Maggie was feared dead during the kidnapping plot by Andre DiMera.
Maggie now runs Chez Rouge, an upscale restaurant in Salem, and takes care of her nephew Nick. Mickey has been off-screen since the beginning of 2006, when actor John Ingle left the show.
