"Luv Me, Luv Me" is a 1998 single by Shaggy for the How Stella Got Her Groove Back film and later appeared on his Hot Shot album.
[edit] Song information
The song heavily samples "Impeach The President" by The Honey Drippers and Candyman's "Knockin' Boots". The single featured Janet Jackson (who sings the chorus of Rose Royce's "Ooh Boy"). However, Jackson witheld the rights to releasing her vocals for inclusion on the then-unknown Shaggy's album Hot Shot[1], causing Shaggy to re-record an album version with Samantha Cole. Shaggy later described working with Jackson was "the worst experience" as Jackson "didn't want to be in the video or do any promotion" and was "a complete nightmare".[2] The single version featuring Jackson appears on Shaggy's greatest hits compilation Mr. Lover Lover - The Best of Shaggy... Part 1.
Billboard changed its chart policies near the end of 1998, allowing tracks without a commercial release to chart on main Billboard charts. This resulted in "Luv Me, Luv Me"'s debut on the Hot 100 in December 1998.
