Luk Keng Chan Uk

Luk Keng Chan Uk (鹿頸陳屋) is a village situated in the northeastern part of the New Territories, Hong Kong and to the south west of Sha Tau Kok.
As the name suggests, this village is inhabited by the Chan (陳 Hakka tshin11 ) Clan. It is a Hakka speaking village. Today, the village is mostly uninhabited. It is however a popular tourist attraction for sightseeing and hiking. Luk Keng is well-known for its natural scenery and wildlife, which is a contrast to Hong Kong's modernised culture. Historically, the village was used for livestock farming and growing crops. The ruins of the village school can be seen.
Parts of Luk Keng are surrounded by tropical rainforests. Rare animals such as the Nannophya pygmaea and Black-faced Spoonbill have been sighted in Luk Keng, as well as monkeys. Waterfalls are present in Luk Keng.
To get to Luk Keng, take the KCR train to Fanling and take the green minibus No.56K to Luk Keng terminus.
