Talk:Lovedale (South Africa)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I replaced the original (1911 EB) kaffirs with natives, although I recognize that the first term was not specifically derogatory in its 19th century context, and perhaps the second is also offensive. I'd appreciate a review of that.

Also, the online 1911 versions say "The sum paid in fees by scholars (of whom fully nine-tenths were Kaffirs) in the period 1841-1908 was 84,000." Even if that is intended to be £4,000, it's a lot of money and I don't believe it. David Brooks 06:18, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
