Little Miami Bike Trail
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Little Miami Bike Trail is a rail trail in Ohio. Also known as Little Miami State Park but most commonly as the Little Miami Scenic Trail, it forms an unusual linear state park in the southwestern part of the state Ohio, running 70 miles (110 km) long and 66 feet (20 m) wide, totaling about 707 acres (286 ha). The trail is a small section of the Ohio to Erie Trail.
North of Hedges Road between Spring Valley and Xenia, the Trail continues for 15 miles (24 km) managed by Greene County, and then another nine miles managed by National Trail Parks and Recreation District north to Springfield. The bike trail was started in 1984,[1] along the right-of-way of the old Little Miami Railroad from Milford in Clermont County to Spring Valley in Greene County along the eastern bank of the Little Miami River.
From Milford, it goes north to Loveland, Fosters, Kings Mills (on the opposite shore) at the old Peters Cartridge Company, South Lebanon, Morrow, Fort Ancient, under the Jeremiah Morrow Bridge, to Oregonia, Corwin (near Waynesville), Spring Valley, Xenia, Yellow Springs, and to Springfield.
The City of Lebanon in 2004 began construction on the Lebanon Countryside Trail, a spur about five miles from the city south to the trail, partly over the former Middletown and Cincinnati Railroad right-of-way. The trail opened in late 2005.
At Xenia Station, the trail intersects with several existing or planned trails: the Creekside Trail, the Jamestown Connector, and the Ohio to Erie Trail.
The trail has been extended south from Milford through Terrace Park and Newtown, Ohio to Bass Island, 55 miles (89 km) south of Xenia. Eventually the trail will extend to Clear Creek, then it will follow the Little Miami River until its mouth at the Ohio River, where the trail will continue west towards downtown Cincinnati.
