Talk:List of counties in Ireland
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Number of Counties
As the list shows, there are now 35 counties in Ireland, not 32. The 'extra' counties are accounted for by the splitting of the former County Dublin into three 'new' counties, and Tipperary's North and South Ridings becoming counties in their own right. The counties officially recognised in law can be found here: Local Government Act 2001 (Section 10) and in the accompanying schedule[1].
Futhurmore the term "administrative counties" is defunct. Local Government (Dublin) Act, 1993 (Section 9) [2]
