[edit] Print size

Why does the diagram show some in larger print? No apparent reason for the selection. For example, if it's about trains that turn, several turn at Plimmerton every weekday but practically none ever turn at Petone. Or if it's the stations where departure times are "exact", Plimmerton should be among them too. (We used to have a goods shed - the bases of three of its piles still in evidence - and a ticket office and waiting room!) - Robin Patterson 05:17, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

It's been long enough that I'm honestly not sure what criteria I used for giving a station bigger text, but I think that apart from the end-of-the-line stations, I based it on passenger numbers — the ones with the most people getting on or off. The regional council website gives the five busiest stations (in order) as Wellington, Porirua, Waterloo, Johnsonville, and Petone — these, plus the terminating stations, are in large text, so I guess that's what I was going by. -- Vardion 12:12, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Additional station data

I propose to add to the list closed stations and the opening and closing dates for each station. Any objections? -- Matthew25187 19:50, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

no problems here Pickle 16:50, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
BTW brilliant work with thoses two new station articles Pickle 17:05, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Nice work, although one issue that has arisen as a result is with the "Line" column of the table. Originally, it referred to which of the five Tranz Metro services stopped at the station, but obviously, that isn't possible with stations which predate that scheme. The other option is to use "line" in reference to actual stretches of railway track, rather than services, which I think is what you've done. This, however, can be a little confusing given that several of the lines have changed designation over the years as deviations were built — what is now the Melling branch was once Wairarapa line, for example. Any suggestions on what could be done? Perhaps we need two columns — one for which piece of track the station is/was on, and another for which Tranz Metro services (if any) stop there. -- Vardion 19:33, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
I hadn't realised what the original intention of the "Lines" column was, though I now see your point re: possible confusion between lines/services. Wouldn't adding another column to the table make it too "squashed" unless you have a widescreen monitor though? However, it was my intention when I extended the table that if all of the stations listed with notes eventually had their own articles, the data in the Notes column would be included in the articles and the Notes column could be deleted. -- Matthew25187 12:25, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps it would be best if this article avoided discussion of Tranz Metro services, and instead focused solely on the stations themselves (whether modern or historic). Although the article is titled "List of Wellington railway stations", it seems to have expanded into a broader article on Wellington railway services in general, which it probably should not have done. Any information on Tranz Metro services can go into the Tranz Metro article itself, although it might be nice to have a broader Rail transport in Wellington article to cover everything (including historic services that predate Tranz Metro). Thoughts? -- Vardion 22:05, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
I agree that talk of train services is starting to stray off-topic, though the rest of the article seems to be relevant to the subject. There is the existing article Public transport in Wellington (though the focus of this article seems to be services that exist today rather than historical details) that could be expanded where necessary to include any information in this article which doesn't belong or, as you say, moved to the Tranz Metro article. -- Matthew25187 01:43, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sortable dates

Thanks for mentioning that. I have updated the list accordingly. – Matthew25187 (talk) 01:34, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
