List of WWE Cruiserweight Champions

This is a chronological list of wrestlers that have been WWE Cruiserweight Champion by ring name. The WWE Cruiserweight Championship was a professional wrestling championship in World Wrestling Entertainment. It was challenged by cruiserweights at a maximum weight of 215 lb. (97.5 kg)[1] and was originally a World Championship Wrestling title. It was exclusive to the SmackDown! brand. There have been a total of 40 recognized champions who have had a combined 78 official reigns.[1]

The championship has been known as:[2][1]

Vacated June 11, 1998 Buffalo, NY Vacated due to Malenko not earning the title shot as himself.[21][1]
Chris Jericho 4 June 14, 1998 Baltimore, MD Defeated Dean Malenko by disqualification at The Great American Bash.[22] On July 12 at Bash at the Beach, Rey Misterio, Jr. defeated Jericho for the title due to interference from Malenko; Jericho was returned the title the following night due to this interference.[1]

Vacated Vacated due to Lenny Lane being stripped of the title after Turner Broadcasting did not approve of the publicity garnered through Lane's homosexual gimmick. [27]
Psychosis 2 October 4, 1999 Kansas City, MO Was announced on Monday Nitro to have defeated Lenny Lane during a house show match, however the match never took place.[29] Later histories state Psychosis was awarded the title on Monday Nitro for unexplained reasons.[27][30][26]
Disco Inferno 1 October 4, 1999 Kansas City, MO Won the title on Monday Nitro.[26]
Evan Karagias 1 November 21, 1999 Toronto, ON Won the title at Mayhem.[7][31]
Madusa 1 December 19, 1999 Washington, D.C. Won the title at Starrcade, becoming the first female Cruiserweight Champion.[32]
Oklahoma 1 January 16, 2000 Cincinnati, OH Won the title at Souled Out.[7][33]

Elix Skipper 1 August 14, 2000 Kelowna, BC Skipper was awarded the title by his Team Canada partner Storm on Monday Nitro.[41]
Mike Sanders 1 October 2, 2000 San Francisco, CA Sanders and Kevin Nash defeated Skipper in a Handicap Powerbomb match to win the title on Monday Nitro.[7][40][42]

Retired September 25, 2007 Vacated on the September 28, 2007 edition of SmackDown! by acting General Manager Vickie Guerrero, citing that his status as Mr. McMahon's (kayfabe) son and his dimunitive stature would eventually jeopardize his well-being. On March 4, 2008, WWE.com put the title on the retired section with the other past titles.
