All these references to Linfen's pollution problem need to be toned down, including removal of biased external links. One single study by a progressive environmentalist organization does not constitute enough historic basis to smear the town's entire reputation. Moreover, while the region's primary industry is coal, the mines are concentrated far enough in the mountains outside of town to have little visible effect on Linfen's air quality. Most visitors and residents of Linfen aren't even aware of a "pollution problem." The photo campaign (removed from External Links) funded by this environmental organization (and subsequently propegated by news agencies picking up on the hype) is in fact quite misleading. Most of these images were taken in the dead of winter, when wearing face masks is essential for warmth, and has nothing to do with pollution. Any Chinese city at winter will show just as many citizens wearing face masks. Face masks aren't even sold in Linfen in the spring or summer, when the sky is bright blue. Additionally, the "smoke stacks" shown in the pictures are steam, not coal, which has nothing to do with coal pollution. Instead of turning Linfen into an environmentalist protester's wet dream and targeting its single industry, why not instead focus on the town's positive cultural and historical qualities. It's a real pity that one liberal organization's obviously skewed report, along with their puppet photo-journalist, have managed to invade Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.77.84.229 (talk) 08:05, August 27, 2007 (UTC)

I undid some of the changes made to the Linfen article because it had useful information about Linfen, including a photo essay that shows many useful and informative photos of Linfen. Also, the article had been 'toned down' to the point of not accurately portraying the city as it has become in recent years.

What is an accurate portrayal of the city? I'm suspecting that this page has come under attack from Chinese propagandists. If you are going to remove things from this site because you believe it is an unfair portrayal, then you must replace it with accurate, factual information of the city.

It is a proven "fact" that this city has high levels of pollution why should this be dumbed down and removed from the site?

You cannot change a Wikipedia article because you do not like what it portrays, if what it portrays is backed up by evidence of some sort. This isn't a Chinese tourism website! Nolomorte (talk) 07:11, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
