Linga (Northern Isles) or Lingay/Lingeigh (usu. Hebrides) is an extremely common name for Scottish islands and is most common in Shetland. It comes from the old Norse lyngey meaning "heather island". The Scottish Gaelic equivalent is Fraoch Eilean or "Eilean an Fhraoich".
