André Boisclair (born 14 April 1966) is a politician in Quebec, Canada. He served as Environment Minister in former Premier Bernard Landry's Parti Québécois cabinet.

At the age of 23, Boisclair was first elected on September 25, 1989, making him the youngest Member of the National Assembly (MNA) ever elected at the National Assembly of Quebec. He temporarily left politics in 2004 to attend the John F. Kennedy School of Government in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States.

[edit] Leadership election

After Landry's resignation in June 2005, Boisclair entered the race for his succession as a candidate for the leadership of the Parti Québécois. An opinion poll conducted in June 2005 revealed that 35% of those polled believed that Bosclair has the best chance of leading the PQ government to victory. The fact that Boisclair is openly gay does not appear to be an issue in the campaign: in another poll [1], 76% of those surveyed responded that they would be amenable to electing a homosexual to lead the provincial government.

[edit] Affaire Boisclair

On September 19, 2005, Andre Boisclair admitted to have taken cocaine while he was a minister in the Parti Québécois government from 1997 to 2003. This acknowledgment comes just weeks before the election to choose the next leader of the Parti Québécois.
