[edit] Last name
Isn't his name NEILSON ?
- I don't think so. Google says "Did you mean: "Leslie Nielsen"" -- Tarquin 17:33 Feb 21, 2003 (UTC)
- No. --Kinu 19:32, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

A picture would be nice, but I guess copyrighting makes it difficult?
[edit] Better description of Nielsen
Hello,
There seems to be a better description of Neisen here:
http://www.canadaswalkoffame.com/inductees/01_leslie_nielsen.xml
This Wiki description seems to miss the fact that he lived in the Yukon, Edmonton and Calgary.
[edit] fishy factoid
- Born of Danish and Welsh parentage, he studied at the Lorne Greene
- Academy of Radio Arts in Toronto before going to the United States.
This link goes to Lorne Greene the actor born in 1915 or so. Is this correct? Nielsen was only a few years younger than Greene and studied at a school named after him?
Just seems weird.
- I'm guessing it was named thusly somewhat later on --Angry mob mulls options 16:47, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Hey, I found this website that says that Leslie Nielsen was born in 1926 not 1921: http://www.tv.com/leslie-nielsen/person/6996/summary.html --Kabe13 00:39, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Filmography
Hey all, I put the following line in the hidden text alongside Nielsen's filmography. As Nielsen allegedly has over 1500 television appearances and many movie roles over the decades, this article can not possibly hold every guest appearance, commercial narration, etc. I think we should limit the filmography to roles which have defined or influenced Nielsen's career and include a link to the Internet Movie Database for the extended list.
The text reads:
- Note: Nielsen's complete filmography of film and television takes up 220 listings according to The Internet Movie Database, not including appearances on television specials such as Circus of the Stars, game shows such as Match Point, and documentary narration. Obviously, that all can't fit in this article without making it a giant list. As such, if you choose to make an addition, please ensure there's a Wikipedia article for that listing and that it was an influential role in his career.
Let me know what you think, but I think this will help keep the list tidy. His staring role in Swamp Fox or Police Squad was considerably more notable than a Match Point appearance, and this keeps the page looking clean.
Thanks! --Ataricodfish 19:18, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
One of his recent projects has been two series of commercials for Arizona Federal Credit Union (serving Maricopa and Pinal counties) which can be seen on their website https://www.azfcu.org/ Mortifyd 07:26, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Another fishy factoid - Forbidden Planet's plot based on The Tempest? From what I understand only the characters are based on the Tempest, the plot is very different. Something to consider changing.
[edit] Removed opinion
", although his later starring roles failed to match the success of his earlier work." I felt that this was someone's opinion and not established fact so I removed it. — oo64eva (Alex) (U | T | C) @ 09:38, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Day Of The Animals
Hello, I've seen a movie of Leslie Nielsen wich is not mentoined in the wikipedia article named "The Day Of The Animals". You can find more info about the motion picture at www.imdb.com. Daniel from Hungary
[edit] GA comments - on hold
There are 7 things that must pass before an article reaches GA status. I have reviewed it, and feel there are one or two items which need sorting out before passing it, although which could be easily fixed. This is a breakdown of the criteria:
- Well-written: Pass
- Factually accurate: Pass
- Broad: Pass
- Neutrally written: Indifferent
- Stable: Pass
- Well-referenced: Indifferent
- Images: Pass
Comments:
Although it begins well, the article needs a number of later sections, particularly "Later comedies" clarified, as they can be seen as using weasel words. Notably, the passage
- "Critics panned Repossessed (1990) and 2001: A Space Travesty (2000), parodies of The Exorcist and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Both films attempted the absurdist comedy Nielsen is recognized for, but were poorly received."
needs to have a reference to a critical review and probably a box-office reference too. I have put the nomination on hold, but not failed it and will see if it has improved in seven days.

- I agree with Bob, there really need to be more sources. Of the seven sources, three are movie reviews. Most of the other sources are brief bios and all sources are web based. With such a long career as Nielsen has had, I imagine that there are some book sources as well. Try the reference section of your local library, most will have at least one published movie encyclopedia. *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 02:44, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

- Hey there, thanks for the advice, all. Alas, I'm probably not going to be able to get to fixing up the article this week as I hoped to sit down and do. Surprisingly, I've had a hard time finding *quality* sources for this article (much of the movie
reviewsguides only have small blurbs which I didn't see using for this, and Nielsen's "autobiography" is a work of fiction). I agree that there shouldn't just be web-based sources, but that's all I have been able to locate to date. I'll have to spend a free weekend down at the bookstore and see if I can find something more helpful. --Ataricodfish 03:41, 31 August 2006 (UTC) (striking and correcting, --Ataricodfish 03:42, 31 August 2006 (UTC))

[edit] Waterman Movie?
Is it worthy to mention Leslies supposed role in the Waterman movie?
[edit] Nominated for GA
I have nominated this article for GA. I also was unable to find any book sources, and spent many hours scouring the internet looking for news articles and bios, and was disappointed to find so few. Nevertheless, I have still complied as much as information I could find about his life, so we'll see how the nomination goes. As a side note, I e-mailed a radio station to get approval to use one of their images of Nielsen, and I am just waiting for the author of the image so I can add it within the next few days to Wikimedia Commons for use on the article. --Nehrams2020 23:39, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] GA pass
Good work. Definitely. Just keep finding sources where you can (I recommend one for Forbidden Planet as a classic film) but this is superb and an enjoyable read. Alientraveller 15:52, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for reviewing the article so quickly. I've tried to find a lot of sources, but so far have had little luck. Hopefully I can find a biography eventually (I haven't found one yet on Amazon). --Nehrams2020 18:12, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Commanderadams.jpg
Image:Commanderadams.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Scrubs
Surely there should be an entry in the Filmography of his protrayal of the doctor who everyone loved (cant recall his name) in Scrubs if there is mention of an uncredited role...?
