At the 1999 census, the population was 5,901. The estimate for 2006 was 6,825.
Inhabitants of La Ville-du-Bois are known as Urbisylvains.

Constantine Andreou, the Greek painter, once lived in La Ville-du-Bois. In 1999, the town's library was named in honor of Andreou.[1]
