KUSG, channel 12, is a full-service television station in St. George, Utah that serves as an affiliate of RTN. The station is owned by Four Points Media Group, which also owns Salt Lake City CBS affiliate KUTV. KUSG periodically airs news updates produced by KUTV.[1]

[edit] History

The original construction permit for channel 12 was granted on May 23, 1988[2], and the station's call letters were assigned on September 11, 1989[3], but a license was not granted until January 24, 2000[4]. When KUSG first signed on in August 1999, it was operated as a satellite station for KUTV, at that time a CBS owned-and-operated station. CBS sold the stations (along with five other smaller-market stations) to Four Points on January 10, 2008[5] (in a deal first announced on February 7, 2007[6]).

On March 17, 2008, KUSG split from KUTV and became a separate station, operating as an RTN affiliate for St. George; the station has estimated this has left a small number of viewers without KUTV programming.[7]
