Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

I regret that, while it must be important to you, mere survival in WW II does not, of itself, qualify a person for a place in our encyclopedia.--Anthony.bradbury 13:12, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Adoption

Hello, Kitkatcrazy! I see that you have expressed an interest in being adopted by an experienced editor. I accept your request, being an experienced editor myself. Whether you want to learn about wiki markup, find something to do, or just talk to somebody, I'm the one you can talk to - just leave a message on my talk page. Good luck with Wikipedia! --Daniel Olsen 18:44, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Cheers

There's always something to work on at Wikipedia. If gnomish contributions are what you're interested in right now, you could lend a hand at Category:Category needed, which aims to properly categorize all articles, or Category:Stubs, which is very similar. If you like writing, you could visit Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Stub types and find a category of short articles that you're interested in, and then expand those articles. If you want more action, you could moniter the recent changes for vandalism. There's something for everyone, just find your niche and dive right in! Good luck, and happy editing! --Daniel Olsen 02:46, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Hi

Which image are you talking about? I see that you've uploaded both Image:Barnton hotel.jpg and Image:Barnton.jpg, and neither seem to have been deleted. Both, however, need information on the source and the creator if they are to stay. Images simply found elsewhere on the internet are likely copyrighted and cannot be used on Wikipedia. --Daniel Olsen 03:58, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:SafariWebBrowser.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:SafariWebBrowser.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Roguegeek (talk) 01:11, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:180px-D Estienne D Orves portrait.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:180px-D Estienne D Orves portrait.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Featured picture nomination

Hey Kitkatcrazy, thanks for nominating a photo at Featured Picture candidates. I'm sorry I had to oppose (and I suspect your nomination won't be successful, unfortunately) but I hope you won't be disheartened. I've just taken a look at your user page and I'm inclined to think you've nominated the weakest image of the lot - many of the others are both compositionally and technically superior, although featured pictures voters are notoriously picky and I'm not 100% sure any of them would make it :-(

Anyway, the reason I'm leaving this message is because I was really shocked at the level of chromatic aberration in your feral pony photo, so much so that I assumed that it had been taken with a very poor quality camera or even a cameraphone. Although I've read a few reviews of your camera model (Fuji S5600, right?) which mention relatively high purple fringing, that example is pretty extreme, especially considering that there doesn't seem to be really harsh bright/dark contrast which is usually the cause of that sort of problem. I'm wondering if perhaps there's a manufacturing defect in your camera - if it's still under warranty and if you've got many other shots with that degree of fringing, you might want to consider getting it looked at by Fuji. I use a similar class of camera (Olympus C-750UZ, which I've had for about 4 years) and I've never had fringing anywhere near as bad as that, even in very difficult shooting conditions. Hence, I'm not suggesting it's any fault of your own, but I think you should expect better performance from a camera of that level.

Once again, thanks for your nomination - I look forward to seeing some more of your photos. Happy editing, --YFB ¿ 22:01, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

No problem, I'm glad you didn't mind me pointing it out. In fact, Debivort has suggested we add that photo (or perhaps a crop of the worst-affected area) to the chromatic aberration article, where it would make a great illustration. Would you mind that?
For a 14-year-old, it looks like you have a pretty good eye for a great photo - you should definitely keep working at it; I have no doubt you have the potential for a featured picture or two :-) It might help to spend a bit of time watching and/or taking part in the featured picture discussions, to get a good idea of what the community looks for in a featured shot. Reading over What is a featured picture? might help too, although we're currently in the process of giving that a workover to make it less ambiguous.
One other (gentle) suggestion: I see you've borrowed Diliff's userpage layout (nothing wrong with that, this is a Wiki, everything's fair game!). You might want to re-title the section currently headed "My featured pictures", as some people would take that to imply that they're 'official' FPs rather than a selection of your favourite uploads. Once again, thanks for taking my pointers the right way... look forward to seeing you around at WP:FPC :-) --YFB ¿ 22:52, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Hi again! I'm sorry to say that your feral pony nomination is going the way I suspected it would - people are just piling on with Oppose votes. In my experience it's not helpful to have it continually pointed out that your picture isn't quite up to scratch - a couple of times is enough! I hope you don't mind, but to go a bit easy on your feelings on your first visit to FPC, I'm going to withdraw the nomination. My comments above still stand - I think with a bit more familiarity with the requirements, you're quite capable of taking a featured picture. If you like, before your next nomination you could drop me a note on my talk page and I'll try to give you some feedback and constructive pointers. Don't take this to heart - even our very best photographers (who routinely take pictures of truly professional quality) often have nominations that don't succeed. Best wishes, --YFB ¿ 14:54, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Flower086.JPG

Thank you for uploading images/media such as Image:Flower086.JPG to Wikipedia! There is however another Wikimedia foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading media there instead. That way, all the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons. Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Spam ad.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Spam ad.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Infobox Bishop

Hi, I saw this infobox and thought it was a good idea, I appreciate that my first efforts to fix it were slightly flawed, would you object If I had a second attempt? I chose the purple because I thought that was the colour of bishops - do you prefer the brown? Conrad.Irwin 17:29, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

ref I think we should stick with the purple, you can get Bishops in lots of different "brands" of Christianity - whatever the words is. Also, what do you want people to put into the Full Title parameter, it would make sense I think to have both the name and the title of the post, but that would not be clear from just Full title. And finally, I liked the preceded by and succeeded by parameters - They are good for linking information together, shall I/You put them back. Conrad.Irwin 18:17, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Re: I think that the invasion of Iraq was un-thought through. It seemed like a good idea at the time, another triumph for America - but as every single other time - it was a bit of a fiasco. Vietnam etc. The reason people study history is to learn from mistakes, but this clearly isn't happening yet ;) The oil motive had possibly a small part, maybe even a large part to play - but I feel it is more likely that someone decided, here is a problem that needs sorting, we have enough might to sort it, lets go and do it! And, as wikipedia often bears out - good intentions lead to bad endings. One of the main reasons that the war in Iraq has left such devastation there is that the idea of "democracy" is not something that gels well with their culture, to take a group of people that are used to having their decisions made for them, and just get on with living their lives; and then say to them that they must decide what is going to happen, is going to lead to confusion amongst them - they want to be back in the security of knowing that someone somewhere is in charge and so control will be maintained. On the other hand, take the people who are used to making the decisions, to be told that they must listen to the people is not going to go down well at all - they are all going to try and fight to get their power back, persuading others that their cause is the right one, in the way that they always have. I do not think that it was a deliberate error, I expect that it was genuinely presented as a very good idea, by some very clever (but as with all politicians, very power-hungry and career seeking) debaters. Hope that gives you some food for thought, but I really don't know very many details.Conrad.Irwin 18:23, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Portrait of a Turkish Woman

Dear Kitkatcrazy, Thanks for your message. I put my vote. I made some explanations there also. This is not a strict islamic dress. This is a traditional willage/rural area dress.( Note: My wife is from Selçuk, she kows this lady).Regards.Must.T C 13:21, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi Kitkatcrazy, I think that photo you took is great, better than anything I've ever taken, however the photo seems somewhat blurry. I also don't think the subject of the photo is of importance. I'm going to have to oppose. Regards, Mdozturk 17:12, 29 October 2007 (UTC) PS: Your picture with the jet is amazing.

Hi Kitkatcrazy, I'm not really an expert on the subject so its difficult for me to suport it. The image is a great portrate, and looking at your user page your clearly a great photographer, but I think the image needs to be more relevant. If the image contained a certain famous building in Turkey, or a more obvious cultural aspect unique to Turky, it would make more sence to go on the front page. It's not obvious enough that it's connected to the articals it links to. Images like the enterance to Hierapolis would (to me) seem like better front page material.(based on the content of the image not nessasarily the artistic merit, which the portrate has bags of), and I agree Mdozturk the jet image is awsome! Cheers.Steveoc 86 23:33, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
Hi Kitkatcrazy, the picture is good but I agree with Steveoc's observations. If you could get a better picture and put it up in the right article, then that would help. Muhammad Mahdi Karim 11:29, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
The women in the picture is not wearing any "traditional" islamic clothing. Just like my previous speakers said. That's why I'm going to put it out of major topics, because it doesn't fit there. [edit] Military Administration of Belgium and North France

This is User:R-41 who made the article Military Administration of Belgium and North France. You claimed that legally, Vichy France had control over the occupied northern territories, if you could show a reference for this, I will change what is there.

There definately is a mentioning of a Military Administration for Belgium and North France repeatedly around the web, why it mentioned North France may be in regards to a strip of land along the French border with Belgium and Germany which Germany wished to colonize and annex, which did not allow French citizens to enter, only to leave. Other than that it may very well be that the rest was legally under Vichy control but under German occupation, if you present sources that show evidence Vichy French administration then I will make changes.--R-41 (talk) 02:11, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] French Resistance

There are two general rules to be followed with respect to headers that are applicable to this situation. One is to avoid repetition of the article title. So rather than a header, "Beginning of the French Resistance", you'd have a header, "Beginning" etc. The second rule is to avoid jargon wherever possible. Many people find this hard, especially on subjects that they're knowledgeable about. Regards, Samsara (talk  contribs) 07:17, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Greetings, I updated the FFI article to include a blurb about the FFI's assistance during the period of France's liberation (under the "Liberation" section). You might find the text useful for the French Resistance article. Cheers--W. B. Wilson (talk) 19:37, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Princess Elizabeth 1928.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Princess Elizabeth 1928.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:ATS queen.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:ATS queen.JPG.

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:25, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Turk of Karahissar .jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Turk of Karahissar .jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Ricky81682 (talk) 00:25, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Anwar sadat TIME.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Anwar sadat TIME.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
