[edit] Kharkov vs Kharkiv
Dear Mr. Kazak, let me first remind you that being "not a warrior" requires avoiding the edit wars indeed :).
Now to the subject. Keeping Kharkov across the article is unacceptable for purely practical reasons of Wiki consistency. That Metro system may be bi-, triple- or whatever -lingual (remember: this is Ukraine, IMO the unique country in the world :)). Although I should remark that metropoliten is a pretty official company with formal name, registered in a very particlular country - where Ukrainian is the only official language. But an encyclopedia article may not be multilingual. If you're keen of having Kharkov everywhere, you'd better demand renaming the whole article (which I will oppose). Otherwise, please stick to the name and bolded headline of the page.
I think we all should present our POV's civilly and co-operatively, keeping in mind that building a consistent encyclopedia is our only goal. Best wishes, Ukrained 10:29, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
- First of all if you are so keen on leaving Kharkiv then so be it, but this article is not about Kharkov, it is about the metro, Metro which unlike Kiev's has been Russophone in signs and announcements since its openining and is still Russophone in all technical levels. Secondly, there was a vote long ago about Kharkiv and Kharkov which I would not mind to have a revote. Finally googling Kharkov Metro vs Kharkiv Metro gives the former a 24 000 lead. Finally don't take this all to personally, успокойся. Guys we all agreed about the name. I already wrote to K.K. about this. Note that he didn't object to the article being moved and if there would have been a vote, I would support the move too. Currently, as Kharkiv prevails in English, the policy is to use Kharkov only in specific context when this particular form is established in history books. The WW2 is the prime examples and anyone read on the WW2 history in English literature would understand the Battle of Kharkov articles and their coexistence with the Kharkiv city article. I voted myself to move the city article to a Ukrainian now. Now, that this is settled, let's move ahead. If K.K. or you or me creates an article under the name others disagree, we can have a civil discussion and resolve any issue. We should just all remain cool and act civilly. - Currently I am doing my doctorate in Kharkiv. I just got back from there yesterday. All the metro stations signs are in Ukrainian (because that is the the official state language). All the announcements are in Ukrainian. All the advertisoing in the trains and in the stations are in Ukrainian. All the Russian signs have been removed and replaced by Ukrainian ones because of the fact that Ukrainian is the official language. It makes no sense to have English transcriptions of the old Russian names as they are no longer current. If you look at the Dutch sight they use transcription directly from the Ukrainian. --Bandurist 20:13, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- First of all Russian langauge has full second official status in Kharkov since last spring, thus de facto it has full status and should be represented. Second of all Dutch is Dutch, and what standards they set there is irrelevant to our discussion. Finally if what you say is true, please can you provide photo evidence of old stations like Pushkinskaya. --Kuban Cossack 22:39, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

That is the correct way of spelling!
