[edit] The shopping center
Katy Mills is a one story facility that sits on 1.3 square miles (3.4 km²) of land. The mall is built with a "racetrack" design and one complete pass around the mall is approximately one mile.
Popular stores include Tommy Hilfiger Company Store, Books-A-Million, Juicy Couture and Polo Ralph Lauren Company Store; some of which relocated from Sealy Outlet Center, which was supplanted by Katy Mills due to its distance from nearby Sealy. Its "Katy Field Day" food court has Burger King, the Johnny Rockets, a carousel, and a Rock Wall. Outside, various restaurants such as Red Lobster, Fuddruckers, TGI Friday's, and Los Cucos surround the mall. The mall also provides over 3,500 jobs for the local Katy community and provides most of Katy Proper's sales tax revenue, as well as cultivating tourism.
People from all over Texas, the surrounding states, and international tourists come to see this mall and take advantage of the name-brand outlet shopping. Many from Houston also come as well due to the wide selection of products and services. All visitors from over 50 miles (80 km) away receive free coupon books and discounts, which makes the mall a popular destination for groups from central and southwest Texas, Louisiana, and Mexico. Aside from the Christmas holiday season, the religious holiday Semana Santa is the mall's highest traffic period with many visitors from Mexico and South America coming specifically to Katy Mills for certain stores[citation needed].
