[edit] Donation?

a private collector .... donated it to the State Historical Museum. The complete donation, which cost the museum "millions of dollars"....

Surely if the museum paid for it, it can't be considered a donation? 86.155.207.81 (talk) 17:34, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

I thought the same thing as well, but the Forbes article states "The egg itself was recently donated by a private, unnamed owner to the Russian National Museum." It might just be a terminology thing for museums to refer to all contributions as "donations". --Hemlock Martinis (talk) 17:59, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
It didn't make sense to me either. I was bold and changed "donated" to "sold" and "donation" to "purchase". — Kpalion(talk) 21:48, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
