However, "kol" is regularly transliterated as "kul" and vice versa (see "Issyk-kul"/"Issyk-kol"), and "kul" means lake, which would make "Karakol" translate to "black lake", which would make a lot more sense, given that the town is the biggest place at the eastern edge of lake Issyk-Kul. Can anyone say for sure whether or not "Karakol" is "black lake" or "black arm"? -- Hux 01:05, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sister city: Asheville

The article says Asheville, North Carolina is the sister city of Karakol, but when I clicked on the link I found Karakol isn't listed as Asheville's sister cities. One's got to be wrong but I don't know which. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.151.160.174 (talk) 18:20, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
