Kamaishi (釜石市; -shi) is a city located in Iwate, Japan.
As of 2008, the city has an estimated population of 41,022 and the density of 92.9 persons per km². The total area is 441.42 km².
The city was founded on May 5, 1937.
It is located in the middle of the rugged Sanriku rias coast. Steel industry once flourished here.
