Kalkallo is a small semi-rural village 40 kilometres north of Melbourne. Located on the Hume Freeway it has a few streets, a service station and a pub. It is surrounded by farms not yet developed by the urban sprawl of Melbourne. The nearest access to public transport is the Donnybrook railway station.
It is the focus of the new Merrifield development being unertaken by MAB Corporation and Gibson Property Corporation. Merrifield is a 880 hectare $5billion mixed use development located on the corner of Donnybrook Road and the Hume Highway. The Minister for Planning has recently rezoned 415 hectares of the property to the Comprehensive Development Zone and development will commence in 2008.
Merrifield has been planned as an integrated mixed use development with capacity to provide 17,000 new jobs and homes for up to 30,000 people.
