Judeţ
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A judeţ /ʒu'deʦ/ is an administrative division in Romania and was also used for some time in Moldova. It is commonly translated to English as "county".
Its name is derived from Romanian jude (< Latin "judicis"), which was an office with administrative and judicial functions in the Danubian Principalities, roughly corresponding to both judge and mayor.
