User talk:Jthayes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In general we do not remove comments from talk pages except in very limited circumstances, which do not qualify in this case.

I apologize for not seeing that there were three people at issue here, not two.

Do read what I wrote on User talk:Pickaguitar. While you have not vandalized that I see, so my requests that Pickaguitar stop doing so do not apply to you, most of the rest of my comments do apply.

So, for a way forward. First, before a disambig gets created, you need to establish that you are notable enough to have a page. Subject created pages are often called Vanity pages, and have a very bad rep around here. Subjects editing about themselves also has a bad rep, because that situation so often ends badly.

Please read up on the links I gave Pickaguitar, though WP:MUSIC likely does not apply to you. WP:RS and WP:NOTE definitely do apply. WP:BIO as well.

Next you need to decide how you want to go about getting your page set up. You can either create it right in article space, and face the potential fire right away, or create it in user space, working to refine it and getting 3rd party opinions on it before you eventually copy it into article space. The latter takes more time, but has more likelyhood of not having the article deleted.

Then there is the issue of what to name the article. Given your background, Jason Hayes (writer) might be a good place for your article.

Whenever your article makes it into article-space, I would really suggest you give it a little time before the current Jason Hayes article is moved and a disambig is built in it's place. Assuming that either you or Pickaguitar are successful in creating a page that does not get deleted, then that's the eventual situation I would expect. But after all that stuff that has been going on at the existing article, I would strongly suggest that the move/disambig not happen at once. A week should be a good period of time to see if the new article will survive, making a disambig the proper next step.

I would also suggest you read WP:CSD, WP:PROD, and WP:AFD. These are the three deletion systems in the project. If someone ends up disagreeing with your notability, it is one of these three processes that will be used to delete it. (Though admins like me are able to Speedy Delete/CSD things without going through the tagging steps.) Having at least a basic knowledge of how those systems work is a good way to know how to respond if they are used on an article that you create.

I will not be the one to make the determination of whether the article stays or goes. I am not a great judge of notability myself. But there are people on the project who are good judges of such, so we shall see. - TexasAndroid 18:50, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again for taking the time to reply - much appreciated. I was actually in the process of creating my own user page when I noticed that you had left this note.
I did read the comments that you left for User talk:Pickaguitar. I wholeheartedly agree with them. If you notice my initial comment on the Talk:Jason_Hayes page, I only started the discussion after I saw the initial changes being made by another Jason Hayes. I was actually content to leave that page the way it was prior to that.
I'll get busy doing things within the confines of my user page and then seek out help from more experienced Wiki members before I try to move anything into article space.
Thanks again and I will take it (cautiously) from here.
