[edit] Playing career

Veiga has spent much of his career in his home land with S.L. Benfica, C.F. Estrela da Amadora and a brief stint with S.C. Olhanense and had a long spell in neighbouring Spain with Levante UD and Real Valladolid.

[edit] Tamworth

Veiga was desperate to play in England and he trained with Walsall and Bury, and was apparently attracting a lot of interest from league clubs.[citation needed]

José had trials at Tamworth in the 2006/07 pre-season but had to wait for international clearance before boss Mark Cooper could bring him to The Lamb, but on November 11, 2006 Veiga signed for Conference National side Tamworth. Despite Tamworth's relegation Veiga signed a one-year contract on July 10, 2007 to stay with the club.[1]

It was announced on March 14, 2008, that Veiga would be leaving The Lambs at the end of the 2007/08 season. Veiga missed most of the season after dislocating his shoulder during training and was told by manager Gary Mills that he didn't figure in his long term plans.[2]

[edit] International career

[edit] Cape Verde

He is one of two English based members in the current Cape Verde international football team, the other is West Bromwich Albion defender Pedro Pelé.

In more recent times Veiga had a falling out with the management of Cape Verde and was left out of the squad for the CAN 2008 qualifying match against Algeria on March 24, 2007 in favour of Ernesto Soares.

Veiga did however receive a re-call to the national team for the 2008 African Cup of Nations qualifying game against Gambia on June 16, 2007.
