[edit] History

Joining Hearts is the longest-running HIV/AIDS fundraiser in Atlanta.

Joining Hearts organization was formed over 20 years ago by a group of a dozen friends. Each of them made a one-hundred dollar investment to help underwrite the cost of a party in Atlanta with all proceeds going to help people with AIDS. After the first year, the original committee decided that proceeds should not just benefit AIDS awareness, but the committee instead chose to designate the funds to meet a more critical need of people living with HIV/AIDS in Atlanta - housing.

[edit] Beneficiaries

[edit] AID Atlanta

Founded in 1982, AID Atlanta has grown to become a leading provider of testing and support services to help stop the spread of HIV in Atlanta. “The mission of AID Atlanta is to empower HIV positive Georgians to live independent, productive lives, and to deliver world class educational programs that help stop the spread of HIV by reducing at-risk behaviors in targeted populations.”

[edit] Jerusalem House

Originally opened in 1989, Jerusalem House has provided housing and support services to over 200 residents living with HIV. Based on the success of the original house in the Druid Hills/Virginia Highlands area of Atlanta, a second facility was opened in 1997 in the Emory University area to address the specific needs of HIV positive single women and their children. In 2003, Jerusalem House launched the Scattered Site Program to provide support services to HIV positive residents living independently off-site.
