Today you removed the following from the biography of John R. Lynch. Please explain why you did so and the authoritative source for this deletion.

Lynch attended Kimball Union Academy in New Hampshire, but did not graduate. He was the first African-American Secretary of State in Mississippi.

There are two individuals with the same last name.

James D. Lynch was an African-American who attended Kimball Union Academy and was the first black secretary of state of Mississippi. John Roy Lynch is a separate individual.

I just wanted to correct this on John Roy Lynch page. Ladb2000

[edit] Confusing references to election of 1876

It's not clear what the editor intended. I know the Mississippi and SC elections of 1876 were surrounded by violence from Red Shirts, but it's unclear who contested the election and who prevented Lynch from taking the seat in Congress. Needs more facts, as the sentence is very ambiguous. There were a lot of power struggles going on. --Parkwells (talk) 19:12, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
