James D. Lynch

James D. Lynch (1839-1872) Was the first African-American Secretary of State in Mississippi, and a minister.[1] Lynch attended Kimball Union Academy in New Hampshire, where he spent two years, and then moved to Indianapolis where he committed himself to ministry.[1]
Coincidentally, another future Reconstruction politician, Jonathan Clarkson Gibbs, also attended Kimball Union Academy, later becoming the first African-American Secretary of State in Florida.
